The inaugural Abu Dhabi Padel Masters will see 128 of the world’s top male and female players vie for a total prize money of €450,000 – the largest prize money awarded in a World Padel Tour (WPT) Championship.

Sponsored by Abu Dhabi developer Modon Properties, the prestigious event will be held at Bab Al Nojoum, a luxury camp on Hudayriat Island, from February 21st to 26th.

Organized by the Global MICE Organization Limited (GMOL Events) and organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT – Abu Dhabi), this will be the WPT’s Middle East event for the next five years.

Saleh Mohamed Saleh Al Geziry, Director General, DCT-Abu Dhabi Tourism, highlighted Abu Dhabi’s ability to host top-notch international sporting events.

“Padel continues to gain traction in the UAE, with many new world-class facilities increasing grassroots acceptance and interest in the sport.”

Saeed Ali Obaid Al Fazari, executive director of strategic affairs at DCT Abu Dhabi, noted that paddle tennis has become one of the most popular racket sports To have a role to play.

“We look forward to welcoming local and international visitors to the UAE capital to enjoy the game and all that the city has to offer.”

This will be the first Masters of the 2023 WPT season and one of the few annual Masters in the world. Abu Dhabi joins Barcelona, ​​Buenos Aires, Marbella, Valladolid and Madrid as the latest cities to host the WPT Masters.

WPT Vice President and former professional tennis champion Alex Corretja said Abu Dhabi has positioned itself as a world-class leisure and sports entertainment destination with quality facilities and a first-class infrastructure.

“Not only will this be the first Masters of the WPT 2023 season, but it will also be the only Masters to be held in the Middle East, capitalizing on the prosperity the sport continues to witness in the UAE.”

Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of Abu Dhabi Sports Council; Bill O’Regan, CEO, Modon Properties; and Namir Hourani, MD, GMOL Events, also attended the press conference.

Qualifiers will be held from February 18-20, with main draws on February 21-26. The Master Tournament is the WPT’s premier tournament, rewarding players with the highest ranking points earned throughout the tour. It will be broadcast live in more than 130 countries.
