Topsoe and Aveva partner to accelerate green hydrogen economy

[ad_1]

Global industrial software leader Aveva has been selected by carbon reduction leader Topsoe to develop the decarbonization solutions needed to produce green hydrogen and other carbon-neutral fuels.

Topsoe will use Aveva process simulation to model its solid oxide electrolyser (SOEC) to optimize its design and develop control strategies.

To achieve the global NetZero goals, rapid decarbonization of all industries is critical, but not all can be easily electrified. These industries, often referred to as hard-to-abate, include heavy transport such as shipping and aviation, as well as carbon-intensive industries such as steel manufacturing and petrochemical production.

SOEC based electrolyzer

The challenge is to find and replace fossil fuels with carbon-free alternatives. This is where Topsoe can help, by using Topsoe’s high-efficiency SOEC-based electrolyzers to produce the green hydrogen needed to decarbonise many carbon-intensive industries.

Time is of the essence, and with its flexibility, open modeling and ease of use, Aveva Process Simulation enables Topsoe’s engineers to design and optimize electrolyzers with greater speed and efficiency, helping to accelerate the energy transition.

Poul Georg Moses, Chief Technology Officer, Topsoe Power-to-X, said: “Green hydrogen is critical to decarbonizing industries that cannot easily be electrified, and there is no time to waste if we are to succeed in meeting our global NetZero targets. Topsoe has passed Leading the way in building the world’s largest SOEC electrolyser fabrication facility, enabling us to deliver green hydrogen technology Power-to-X solutions on an industrial scale. Aveva process simulation software has been a game changer for us as we Simulation through its dynamics is removing bottlenecks and speeding up the development of our solution.”

Large-Scale Low-Carbon Solutions

“A successful energy transition will depend on how quickly low-carbon solutions can be delivered at scale across industries,” said Tobias Scheele, Senior Vice President of Products at Aveva. We designed Aveva process simulations to accelerate engineering cycles so innovations can be executed quickly and carbon reductions achieved immediately .”

Topsoe is a long-standing Aveva customer and has used Aveva PRO/II Simulation (formerly PRO/II) and Aveva Dynamic Simulation (formerly DYNSIM) for decades. The Denmark-based company is currently employing Aveva process simulations so its engineers can design sustainable solutions as the global push to net-zero emissions spurs demand for green energy products.

Lisa Wee, Aveva’s Global Head of Sustainability, said: “Aveva is committed to partnering with our customers to use technology to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all. We recognize that the choices the global industry has made in this decade and actions that will make a difference now and for future generations. We are excited to help accelerate the energy transition through the combination of our software and Topsoe’s innovative technology.”

Global Electrolyzer Manufacturing

According to the International Energy Agency, global electrolyser manufacturing capacity will be insufficient to meet net-zero emissions by 2021. Alkaline electrolyzers and proton exchange membrane electrolyzers currently account for the majority of production, and less than 0.1% of hydrogen is currently produced by electrolysis.

As renewable energy is increasingly available at lower cost, Topsøe’s ultra-high efficiency SOEC electrolyzers help maximize the delivery of clean hydrogen: these units use the same amount of electricity at a 30% lower cost, more Delivery of 30% hydrogen. — trade arab news agency
