World-renowned stand-up comedian Trevor Noah spoke with attendees at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Summit on a variety of topics, including the nature of culture, identity, success and the pursuit of passion.
The session was moderated by Design Museum CEO and Curator Tim Marlowe and asked questions from the audience.
“One of the things we have to accept about today’s world is the boundaries and barriers about where a person’s culture ends and where it begins; culture crosses borders and borders and is defined in different ways. It brings many challenges; So it’s hard to define where and when an idea should exist,” Noah said.
When asked how his identity has shaped or influenced his career, Noah described it as a challenge and a gift. “I’ve learned through life that identity can evolve, like here in Abu Dhabi. I love watching it, it forces me to understand the other; it’s a constant journey.”
Talking about the responsibilities of an artist, especially as a comedian, the Daily Show host shares how he allowed himself to grow through comedy right from the start.
“Over time, as I grow and expand my view of the world, I hope my comedy will develop in the same way. No one should be the same at every age, we should expect them There will be changes and I will reflect on myself; I want to look at myself, look at my old thoughts and stop acknowledging them,” he said.
