The statement added that the party has instructed “its legal office to challenge this decision to the administrative court”.
The Ministry of the Interior has not yet commented on this statement.
Maruf served as Minister of Communications and Technology from 2016 to 2020. President Said has hinted that the ministry is being manipulated by political parties for their own benefit.
Although Said’s actions last month seemed to have the support of the people, they questioned Tunisia’s democratic transition ten years after it broke away from authoritarian rule in the revolution that triggered the Arab Spring in 2011.
Some politicians and officials have been detained or are under investigation, including old arrest warrants executed after the president lifted parliamentary immunity.
Said has taken action to directly control the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Communication Technology, replacing the ministers in charge of these two departments.
This week, he stated that he would not accept that the future Minister of Communications and Technology has ties to political parties that may want to control citizen data.
Last week, the judiciary said it was investigating foreign financing by four political parties, including Ennahdha.
Ennahdha said it did not violate any rules.
On July 26, the judiciary also briefly investigated four party members, including some members close to the leader and speaker of the parliament, Rached Ghannouchi, who had a slight scuffle with supporters of Said.
These cases were quickly dropped.
