TV channel banned for reporting terror attack in Pakistan: Report | World News

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) banned news channels from reporting on the terrorist attack, Pakistan News International reported. The directives follow earlier orders urging TV channels to comply with the 2015 code of conduct for electronic media, the report said.

“Despite repeated instructions to satellite TV channels that they are unable to comply with the letter and spirit of the 2015 Electronic Media Code of Conduct, we have serious concerns,” the notice said. The watchdog defended the decision, saying news channels resorted to marathon transmissions, ignoring basic journalistic norms and ethics, just to “take the lead” and “credibility” to break the news first.

The agency said the channel violated journalistic ethics by “broadcasting live images of crime scenes”.

“Satellite television channels and their personnel were found not only to be ambivalent about their security but also to create obstacles during rescue and combat operations,” PEMRA said, adding that in this case the news channel shared The information was “unconfirmed and speculative without consulting the security agencies present”.





Authorities also noted that such reporting has caused confusion among domestic and foreign audiences, saying reporting such incidents provides benefits to terrorists who “use the media as a form of political advertising” and serve their consciousness by “promoting their campaigns” Morphological purpose.

“Furthermore, media coverage of such incidents gives terrorists an organizational advantage, allowing specific groups to demonstrate their strength and boldness relative to their competitors,” the watchdog said.
