Two Injured in Dubai Crash After Driver Loses Consciousness on E311

Dubai Police have issued a urgent safety warning following a serious crash on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311) that left two people injured after the driver suddenly lost consciousness behind the wheel. The incident underscores the severe dangers of driving while fatigued or experiencing a medical episode.

Crash Details and Emergency Response

The accident occurred in broad daylight when the vehicle, traveling on the busy highway, veered off the road and collided with a concrete barrier. The impact caused moderate to serious injuries to both the driver and a passenger, who were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Traffic patrols quickly secured the scene to ensure the safety of other motorists and facilitate the arrival of ambulance and rescue teams. Authorities worked efficiently to remove the damaged vehicle and restore normal traffic flow.

Investigation and Official Warning

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, confirmed that specialists are investigating the precise cause of the driver’s loss of consciousness. He emphasized that such incidents are among the most dangerous on the roads, as a driver can lose control of a vehicle within seconds.

Police highlighted that fatigue, underlying health conditions (like diabetes or high blood pressure), and ignoring mild symptoms such as dizziness can have catastrophic consequences when driving. “Losing consciousness behind the wheel is one of the most dangerous causes of major accidents,” Brigadier bin Suwaidan stated.

Critical Safety Advice from Dubai Police

To prevent similar tragedies, authorities are urging all motorists to adopt the following precautions:

  1. Prioritize Health: Undergo regular medical check-ups, especially if you have a chronic condition, to ensure fitness to drive.

  2. Rest Before Driving: Ensure you are well-rested before long journeys and take regular breaks to combat fatigue.

  3. Pull Over Immediately: If you feel unwell, dizzy, or unusually tired, stop driving in a safe location immediately. Do not try to continue your journey.

  4. Know the Warning Signs: Be vigilant for symptoms like blurred vision, confusion, or a racing heart, which can precede a medical episode.

A Broader Message on Road Safety

Dubai Police are using this incident to reinforce their ongoing road safety campaigns. While infrastructure and enforcement are crucial, personal responsibility and vigilance are key to preventing accidents. Drivers are reminded that their well-being is directly linked to the safety of everyone on the road.

As the investigation continues, the message is clear: prioritizing health and recognizing one’s limits behind the wheel is essential for keeping Dubai’s roads safe for all.
