“The status of the crew is unknown at this time,” Army Base Fort Campbell said in a statement earlier Thursday.

“The command’s current focus is on caring for service members and their families.”

The helicopters, from the 101st Airborne Division, crashed around 10 p.m. Wednesday in Trigg County, Kentucky, northwest of Fort Campbell.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said the death toll was expected.

“We’ve had some bad news from Fort Campbell, early reports of helicopter crash, casualties expected,” he tweeted.

Kentucky State Police and emergency management are responding, he said.

“Please pray for all those affected,” Beshear tweeted.

Fort Campbell said the incident is under investigation.

“Further information will be released as it becomes available,” it said.
