Prisoner change: The U.S. government confirmed this morning that a U.S. contractor who had been imprisoned by the Taliban for two years had been released in a prison swap. The United States has released an Afghan drug lord in exchange for Mark Fririchs, who was captured by the Taliban while working on various engineering projects in Afghanistan.
Expected Manhattan gridlock: About 150 heads of state will address the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week. Many dignitaries had to change their travel plans in order to attend Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in the UK today. Traffic jams are expected as many Manhattan streets are closed for safety purposes.
Russian missiles approaching nuclear power plant: Ukrainian officials reported this morning that a Russian missile hit within 1,000 feet of a nuclear power plant with three reactors in the south of the country. It is the second largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
Biden has not decided to run: Last night, President Biden said in a taped interview on CBS News’ “60 Minutes” that he has not yet decided whether to run for re-election. He explained that while he said he intended to run, he had not yet decided whether he would actually run.Biden also said that while the Covid-19 virus is still with us, the pandemic it caused is over in the U.S.
