A total of 40 street vendors were referred by the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Development Authority to the Public Prosecution Authority for violating regulations and engaging in illegal activities.

Faisal Abdullah Al-Olayoun, Director of the Business Control and Protection Department of the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Development Ministry, confirmed that the street vendors who did not comply with the law had been handed over to the Public Prosecution Authority.

He said the department issued 40 final warnings to vehicles in Ras Al Khaimah that had been driving around illegally carrying food items such as fruits and vegetables without a permit.

He explained that if the violation is repeated after the last warning, the car and its cargo will be confiscated and the violator will be fined Dh5,000.

For a second violation, the fine will double to Dh10,000. However, on the third violation, the violator will be referred to the Public Prosecution Authority.

The warning letter was given to them in Arabic and Urdu “because some street vendors speak Urdu”.

He said they monitored 80 percent of the street vendors after warning them. Measures were also taken against violations, with them being fined Dh5,000 and their vehicles impounded.

He also said the actions taken were only the first stage, adding that there were health and economic requirements for opening a business establishment. Casual sales are not allowed, he said.

The Commissioner also highlighted the dangers of parking vehicles on the roadside.
