UAE: Abu Dhabi police issue new alert over violent video games

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police has issued a new warning against violent video games, reminding parents that they encourage children to take risks and aggressive behaviour.

Police said in social media warnings that these games – both online and offline – can also have serious negative effects on children’s mental health, including addiction and recklessness. Some children also end up being isolated and disconnected from reality and commit crimes, officials said.

In a statement, police warned that children often resorted to violence as a form of entertainment as they became insensitive to attacks through play. This can lead them to bully others.

Police are urging parents to pay close attention to their children’s online activities. They must also exercise tight control over the types of gaming apps children can access, especially since some apps can fuel fear, anxiety, depression and even hatred.

growing threat

Recently, a forum in Dubai heard from experts in the field about the risks of online gaming, including how they can be used to spread fear and hatred. While cybercrime officials confirmed the incidence of such crimes in the UAE is low, they still urge parents and guardians to be cautious and caring.

Last year, Dubai Police reported that it had received a complaint of cyberbullying about a 12-year-old boy who had been targeted by classmates on social media.

wide range of games

The UAE is known to have one of the fastest growing gaming markets in the world due to the widespread penetration of technology and mobile phones in the country. Gaming and esports analytics platform Newzoo forecasts a CAGR of 15.1% in the MENA region through 2024, compared to 10% globally.
