The UAE announced on Tuesday that they will offer a 50% discount on unpaid COVID-19 fines to encourage violators to settle their arrears.

The National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Agency (NCEMA) has announced a discount scheme. The ruling will take effect on Wednesday, March 15, for a period of two months.

It will allow UAE residents to pay any outstanding fines for violations during the pandemic.

The state-run Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported: “The emergency prosecutor requested to benefit from the relief decision and to pay fines in a timely manner through the websites and smart applications of the Ministry of Interior and police commands at the state level.”

Failure to comply with the UAE’s strict rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19 carries fines of up to $13,600 (Dh50,000) for non-compliance with home quarantine rules and mandatory hospitalization.

Some of the more common fines include not wearing a mask in crowded and some open areas, carrying more passengers in vehicles than allowed, and failing to observe social distancing rules – with a fine of $816 (Dh3,000) per violation.

UAE authorities have lifted all COVID-19 restrictions as the number of daily cases and deaths has fallen sharply.
