UAE Declares June 15 Public Holiday for Hijri New Year
The UAE government has announced that Monday, 15 June 2026, will be a public holiday for both public and private sector employees to mark the Islamic New Year (Hijri New Year 1448 AH).
The announcement was made on 3 June 2026, giving residents advance notice of the upcoming holiday. The occasion marks the beginning of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.
Employees across the UAE will receive a paid day off as the country observes the start of the new Hijri year.
The holiday is one of the official public holidays observed nationwide each year. Many residents are expected to use the day for family gatherings, reflection, and religious observances, while businesses and government offices will remain closed in line with the holiday schedule.
