Dubai: If you are applying for a visitor visa for a relative or friend in the UAE, you may encounter a “certificate or proof of blood relationship” requirement. What exactly is this certificate? Is authentication required? That’s all you need to know.

What is a blood relationship certificate or certificate?

This is essentially a document proving your relationship to a blood relative. An example of a blood relationship document is a birth or marriage certificate.

“If you are sponsoring your parents, wife, children or siblings for a visitor visa, you must provide any official document proving your relationship to them – this could be a birth certificate or a marriage certificate. If it is a foreign document [one issued outside the UAE] then you have to get the certificate from the consulate of your country and get it Certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and translate into arabicFaisal bin Khasim, administrative manager of the direct typing centre, told Gulf News.

“In some passports, we can also confirm the relationship to the parents by looking at the second page of the passport, which contains the full names of the mother and father,” he explained.

I want to sponsor my parents-in-law, what documents do I need to provide?

A “kinship document” is for blood relatives only, but if you want to sponsor your in-laws, you may need to obtain an affidavit from your country’s consulate in the UAE.

“The requirements depend on the nationality of the applicant. If you want to sponsor your in-laws for a visitor visa, you will need to obtain an affidavit from the consulate stating that you will accept the responsibility of sponsoring your in-laws. This will later need to be obtained by the consulate and Certificate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” said Mohammed Sevi, manager of the typing center at First Line Discovery.

In addition to the affidavit, you may also need to provide a certified marriage certificate.

Under what circumstances do I need to apply for proof of family relationship?

In both cases you will need to provide proof of relationship – when applying Visitor visas for family members you are sponsoring Or sponsor a residence visa for family members in the UAE.

If you are sponsoring a residence visa for dependents, you may also need to provide other requirements and documents. For example, employment contracts, salary certificates, lease contracts, birth certificates, and sometimes an affidavit stating that the sponsor is financially responsible to dependents.

As the requirements for a sponsored visitor visa depend on how close you are to that person, it is important to contact the immigration authorities directly to find out which documents you specifically need to submit.
