UAE astronaut on 25-hour space trip today: How the day will unfold; what you need to know – News

The UAE is just hours away from making history: launching the first long-duration Arab space mission.

UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi will lift off from Earth today at 10.45am (UAE time) along with his six-member crew, embarking on a 25-hour journey to the International Space Station (ISS).

Today’s launch is proceeding as planned, according to NASA. At Kennedy’s Neil A. Armstrong Operations and Inspection Building, astronauts will undergo medical screening and listen to the weather report before dressing up.

Dragon Endeavor will accelerate its four passengers to approximately 28,000 km/h, putting them on an intercept course with the space station.

The crew will dock at around 2.38am UAE time (11.38am) on Tuesday, February 28.

After docking, Crew-6 will be greeted by Expedition 69’s seven-member crew inside the space station.

– Launch pad: Launch Site 39A, Kennedy Space Center

– Space flight time: 25 hours to the International Space Station

– Docking: February 28 at 11:38 a.m. to the space-facing port of the space station’s Harmony module

– Mission Duration: 6 months

– Experiments: Exceed 200 scientific experiments and technology demonstrations Areas ranging from life and physical sciences to advanced materials, technology development, space production applications and student-led research.

How a day on the launch pad will unfold

– The crew takes the tower elevator to the crew access arm.

– The crew enters the Endeavor on the sidewalk.

-Once safely seated inside, the crew checks their communications systems.

– The hatch of the spacecraft is closed.

– Fuel/no fuel vote, which usually occurs about 45 minutes before departure.
