UAE authorities remind motorists to come to a complete stop when school bus displays ‘stop’ sign

[ad_1]

The guidance follows a comprehensive campaign by ITC to ensure the safety of the more than 155,000 students who use school buses to and from school in the emirate.

During the event, ITC emphasized that bus operators, drivers, supervisors and attendants must comply with all regulations and requirements that apply to school traffic safety. As a result, bus drivers must conduct routine maintenance checks on their vehicles and obey speed limits and bus routes for specific roads. Drivers must also ensure that side-mounted stop signs are displayed when parking to assist children in and out of the vehicle.

On the other hand, bus supervisors must ensure that children do not get off the bus in non-designated areas and that there are no students on the bus after each round of the bus. Supervisors must check that each child is properly protected on the bus and have a first aid kit on hand at all times. Supervisors and attendants must also assist children under the age of 11 to cross the street.

Children under 11 must be picked up at the drop-off point by a parent and guardian, and bus supervisors must ensure that they are not unaccompanied when alighting. They must also educate children about safety measures on bus trips.

School buses must also be regularly disinfected and kept clean, which is the responsibility of schools and bus operators, the ITC said.

In the meantime, authorities are urging parents and other motorists to report any violations on the school bus by calling the Abu Dhabi Government Call Centre on 800555.
