The UAE Cabinet has approved the National Energy Strategy, which aims to triple the contribution of renewable energy over the next seven years, and the National Hydrogen Strategy, to promote one of the most important types of clean energy.
The strategy reportedly aims to boost the UAE’s status as a low-emissions hydrogen producer and exporter over the next eight years by developing supply chains, establishing a hydrogen oasis and a national research and development center Worm.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, who presided over the cabinet meeting, said: “As the economy accelerates, we have approved the updated UAE National Energy Strategy, which The strategy aims to triple the contribution of renewable energy over the next seven years and invest AED15-200 billion (US$4.1-54.4 billion) over the same period to meet the country’s growing energy needs.”
“We have also approved the National Hydrogen Strategy, which has recently become one of the most important types of clean energy,” he added.
Sheikh Mohammed also announced that the cabinet has approved the National Electric Vehicle Policy, which aims to establish a national electric vehicle charging pile network, organize the electric vehicle market, and promote the development of related industries to ensure lower emissions, lower energy consumption and maintain road quality.
“We also obtained the first national preliminary approval for autonomous vehicles in the UAE for WeRide,” he said.
He added: “The company will begin testing all types of autonomous vehicles in the country, reflecting the changing patterns of future mobility in the country.”
