SHARJAH 24 – WAM: Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s representative in the Al Dhafra region and chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), highlighted the UAE’s Commitment to the global humanitarian mission under the leadership of His Highness bin Zayed Al Nahyan and to move forward in promoting values ​​and initiatives that alleviate the burden of suffering as the world’s foremost donor of humanitarian aid one of them.
Sheikh Hamdan said that the UAE’s advanced status in the humanitarian and development fields is the result of its efforts in the field of improving human development opportunities in developing societies and areas of instability, as well as the hard work and pioneering initiatives supported by His Highness the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
In his speech to commemorate World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8, Sheikh Hamdan said, “For the past few years, the UAE has maintained the largest international donor in terms of international development assistance compared to national income. country to reach the top ranks of the world’s top donating countries.”
He also pointed to developments in the current humanitarian situation in many countries in the region, due to the escalation of incidents and conflicts and their impact on civilians, innocent women and children.
He also called in this regard for greater solidarity among the various components of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and for upholding the values ​​of human partnership, cooperation and coordination in order to take effective action against the multitude of challenges and risks faced by innocent people.
He also called on the international community and its humanitarian organizations to do more to help the most vulnerable societies develop and work together to avert the danger facing millions of people around the world.
Sheikh Hamdan said the establishment of a World Day for the International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent is a great opportunity to strengthen dialogue and debate on issues that are at the heart of the Movement’s concerns. The world is witnessing a changing situation that requires re-examining the concept of partnerships, coordinating campaign efforts, developing strategies for volunteerism and humanitarian work, and looking at it holistically as the international scene changes. There is also the need to find more efficient ways to deliver humanitarian assistance to beneficiaries in hotspots and achieve sustainable development without abandoning fundamental principles.
Sheikh Hamdan also affirmed the important role of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
He also praised the role of domestic philanthropists in supporting the ERC’s efforts, emphasizing that their noble initiatives strengthen the deep-rooted values ​​of giving and the UAE’s humanitarian status.
