Starting Monday, select customers of food delivery app Talabat will be able to use AI to simplify shopping.

Using generative artificial intelligence (AI), subscribers to the Pro version of the app will be able to use the new shopping assistant to search for recipes and identify available ingredients while grocery shopping.

ChatGPT-powered AI grocery shopping assistant makes Talabat the first daily delivery app to launch in the MENA region. A beta version of the service will launch on Monday, and users will continue to receive updates and enhancements after launch.

This latest feature is part of the tech company’s commitment to enhancing the customer experience through innovation. The feature is the result of a recent hackathon held at their headquarters in the UAE, which employs over 450 product and technical engineers.

“[This service] “It was built by leveraging OpenAI’s ChatGPT to explore new, technology-enabled ways to enhance customer experience,” said Yi-Wei Ang, chief product officer at talabat. Committed to leading innovation in the everyday delivery industry and changing the way users interact with applications.”

Recipes, Tips & More

Once a customer makes their request via chat, the new grocery shopping assistant will provide all the necessary cooking steps of the recipe, along with ingredients available at the nearest talabat Mart store to help execute the dish they searched for. Users can also ask the Assistant for cooking tips and suitable gift dishes, as well as nutritional information.

Available in English and Arabic, the service will make it easier for users to plan meals and prepare shopping lists. Following its beta launch in the UAE, ‘talabat AI’ will be rolled out to users in Kuwait and other markets. This innovative solution will be rolled out to more users in the region throughout the year.

Shopping using AI has the potential to minimize food waste and reduce costs, according to multiple international studies. In the US, Walmart has been using artificial intelligence in its app to simplify the shopping experience for customers.

Some customers have had mixed reactions to the new features introduced by Talabat.

“I’m very interested in this feature,” said Dubai resident Mohammad Yahya. “I live alone and I cook for myself. Sometimes I forget to buy all the ingredients when I’m grocery shopping, or I make too much and I have to throw some food away. I think having AI and grocery apps in the same place The program would make my life easier.”

However, not everyone is convinced of this. “I don’t know if I’d use it, even though I’m a pro subscriber,” Ninu said. “I’m very particular about my recipes, and I’d much rather ask someone I trust than rely on an app. I’ll check out this feature, but I don’t know if I’ll use it very often.”
