TEHRAN – A senior UAE official has underscored the United Arab Emirates’ determination to strengthen ties with Iran.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Al Maral made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian on Tuesday.
The Iranian foreign ministry said in a statement that the UAE minister underscored Abu Dhabi’s determination to strengthen relations with the Islamic Republic.
“In a meeting with United Arab Emirates Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Al Maral on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdulahian emphasized the 13th government’s policy on relations between the two countries,” the statement said.
It added, “Describing the UAE as a reliable trading partner, he said relations between the two countries would be strengthened at the government and private sector levels.”
The statement further said, “Amir Abdurrashian said that expanding the bilateral relationship was in the interest of both countries and the wider region.”
The meeting followed a telephone conversation in April between the foreign ministers of Iran and the United Arab Emirates. In that conversation, Amir Abdulahian described the existing relationship as moving forward, saying: “There are active talks and consultations between officials of both countries.”
“There is no limit to the overall expansion of relations,” the senior Iranian diplomat said, according to a statement from Iran’s foreign ministry at the time.
Both parties emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation, including in the private sector.
UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted the mutual interests of the two countries in developing mutual relations in various fields, highlighting various opportunities for cooperation.
Regarding new developments in the region, he said that in recent weeks, the region is witnessing increased cooperation, including good relations between Tehran and Riyadh and new developments in Syria.
The two sides invited each other to visit Tehran and Abu Dhabi.
