A mobile, foldable dental clinic is becoming the first government health service in the Middle East to offer Emirati patients ‘at home’ treatment.

These mobile dental services offered by the Emirates Health Service (EHS) can prove beneficial for sick patients when in-person visits are prohibited due to certain medical and medical conditions.

The new service aims to improve health system efficiency and deliver high-quality healthcare in a patient-centred, condition-sensitive and privacy-respectful manner.

Dr. Essam Al Zarouni, Acting Executive Director of EHS Medical Services, said that through its medical facilities, EHS strives to diversify medical services to the highest international standards.

Dr Haifa Hannawi, Director of EHS Dental Services, explained that they have launched seven mobile, foldable dental clinics to serve their affiliated dental centres.

The clinic provides family dental services to certain segments of the community.

The clinic also provides medical staff with access to specific patient populations who are at increased risk for oral and dental disease.

The mobile clinic is an integrated modern dental device, designed to be lightweight and easy to transport, complying with international standards.

It also includes operating units for dental chairs, doctor’s chairs and dental equipment and tools.

Services include abscesses, edema, scaling, fillings, removable dentures, restoration and modification of mobile formulations, treatment of conditions specific to oral tissue such as ulcers and other infections, and simple tooth displacements.

Dr Mousa Marashdeh, Head of Policy and Standards, Dental Services, said requests for home treatment can be made by phone to any specialist dental center in the UAE. The application can be made by the patient himself or his family members. If the patient stays in a hospital, nursing home and other facilities, the facility manager can apply on his behalf. If a patient is being treated at a medical center that does not comply with EHS guidelines, confirm the patient’s eligibility for inpatient care by reviewing his medical records at the facility or obtaining the patient’s medical report. If all requirements to receive the service are met, a date shall be scheduled for the first home visit to assess the patient’s medical condition and demonstrate his or her entitlement to receive the service under the category indicated therein.
