The Emirati entrepreneur and philanthropist has announced a donation of AED5 million to the Emirates Red Crescent’s ‘Bridge of Kindness’ campaign in support of earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings, donated the funds to the Emirates Red Crescent for disaster relief efforts on the first day of the World Government Summit in Dubai.

The fund will be used to support both countries in providing emergency humanitarian supplies, medicines and funding relocation of families affected by natural disasters.

Dr. Shamsheer’s donation follows the support and efforts of the UAE leadership to provide charitable assistance to the earthquake-stricken country.

“The rapid response of UAE leaders to the disasters in Turkey and Syria demonstrated their strong commitment to humanitarian support and the cause. The AED 5 million donation is part of our ongoing efforts to assist the overall relief efforts in the earthquake-stricken region. My heart goes out to all those affected by the devastating earthquake, and I hope this donation will meet their needs,” Dr Shamsheer said.

The Emirates Red Crescent thanked Dr Shamsheer for his generous donation, noting that it will be used to fund reconstruction and recovery efforts in the devastated areas as part of its ‘Bridges of Kindness’ campaign.

In the past, Dr. Shamsheer has helped communities during natural disasters by joining the Giving Pledge, the One Billion Meals initiative, and donating to the Prime Minister of India’s National Relief Fund, among other notable initiatives.

Beginning Sunday, the Emirates Red Crescent and partnering UAE humanitarian and charitable organizations will be directly soliciting cash and in-kind donations over a two-week period. Those interested in donating can log on to: http://emiratesrc.ae/relief/ or register via: volunteers.ae.
