On July 1, Etisalat, UAE, named etisalat by e&, announced the launch of GoChat Messenger, an all-in-one free voice and video calling app.

The UAE’s largest telecom operator said GoChat Messenger is a global app that anyone in the world can download and sign up with with just a mobile number.

In a statement to the media, the company said the GoChat service, available for download on Android and iOS platforms, also allows UAE users to send money, pay bills, play games, order food and receive news updates.

Users can also access Smiles coupon deals and home services such as PCR testing, home cleaning and salon services, making it a comprehensive platform for communication.

“GoChat Messenger is the latest addition to the suite of products and services that will benefit customers in the post-pandemic era in the face of growing connectivity needs,” the statement read.

It added: “Since the pandemic, the market has witnessed an increase in the penetration and popularity of internet calling apps. This launch follows e&’s recent launch of ‘etisalat by e&’ as a new brand identity for Etisalat in the UAE. .” The company changed its brand identity to e& on February 23 this year.

“The app is in line with etisalat by e&’s overall vision to provide customers with seamless digital applications enabling experiences that enhance their digital lifestyle,” it said.

According to its website, etisalat will continue to offer other alternative internet calling platforms, including Botim, C’Me, HiU and Voico in the UAE. However, the company did not answer questions about giving UAE users access to iPhone’s FaceTime or Meta’s WhatsApp VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calls.

Currently, most UAE residents and tourists use platforms such as Zoom, Google Meets and Microsoft Teams for business and educational communications, as demand for VoIP calls skyrockets after the pandemic. According to a report by Future Market Insights, the global VoIP market is expected to reach USD 255 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 9.7% during the forecast period 2022-2032.
