An Al Ain hairdresser has been directed to pay back Dh35,000 he embezzled from the salon where he worked as a cashier.

The Al Ain Civil Court of First Instance also ordered the Asian man to pay Dh3,000 to the salon owner for damages.

The barbershop owner has filed a lawsuit against his former employee for paying him Dh35,000 that he embezzled from the business, official court documents say. He also requested another payment of Dh15,000 for damages caused to him by the barber.

The man said in the suit that the defendant worked for him at the salon while also managing his finances.

He said the barber used his position in the salon to embezzle Dh35,000 from the company.

The defendant denied the embezzlement charges, emphasizing that his boss sued him after some misunderstandings because he quit his job and claimed end-of-service benefits.

He said he reported weekly to his boss on business operations and took no money from the salon.

Earlier, the Al Ain Crown Court convicted and punished the hairdresser after finding him guilty of embezzlement.

The owner then filed a civil lawsuit against him, demanding compensation for the moral and material losses he suffered.

After hearing from all parties, and based on the Criminal Court’s ruling, the Civil Court Judge delivered judgment ordering the defendant to pay Dh38,000 to the plaintiff.

The barber was also told to pay the plaintiff’s legal fees.
