DUBAI: Parts of the UAE were hit with strong to moderate rain on Monday night. The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) reported rain in parts of Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah and parts of Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain.
The NCM also shared orange and yellow weather alerts stating the likelihood of cloudy conditions and more rain in the east and inland.
Heavy rain was recorded on Dubai’s Al Qudra, Saih Al Salem and Emirates Highways, while light rain was seen in Al Aweer, according to the NCM.
In Abu Dhabi, heavy rains fell in Al Ain and surrounding inland areas. Rainfall is moderate for Wadi Ghalilah, Khor Khwair, Lihlaih and surrounding areas in Ras Al Khaimah.
NCM also shared weather advisories to keep people away from low-lying and flood-prone areas. “Precautions should be taken during periods of heavy convective cloud activity associated with rainfall and strong downwinds in eastern and northern areas. It may be associated with microbursts and reduce horizontal visibility. Advise to stay away from flash flood areas,” the warning said.
Convective clouds form due to high surface temperatures over land, causing warm, moist air to rise through cooler surrounding air in the atmosphere.
The highest temperature recorded across the country was 42.7°C in Sweihan (Al Ain) at 1.30pm today, according to the NCM.
