The launch of the improved card was announced on Saturday.
On Saturday, the Federal Identity and Citizenship Administration (ICA) explained “New and Improved” UAE ID Card.
The five main features of the new card are:
>> Enhanced protection of invisible data: Now the data can be read through the E-link system with ICA.
>> A high-quality card with a longer service life: The card is made of polycarbonate, and the service life is extended to more than 10 years.
>> A merged 3D photo: The laser printing function will be authenticated by the date of birth of the holder.
>> Advanced technology and process characteristics: The chip of the card will have higher capacity and non-contact data reading function.
>> Additional fields and code definitions: The new information includes professional data, publishing organizations and people.

ICA earlier launched an electronic version of the ID card through the authority’s application.
The UAE ID card is an ID card issued by ICA, which is a legal requirement for all UAE citizens and residents.
The new design of the UAE passport and UAE ID was first announced at a cabinet meeting chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, in November last year.
The new ID documents have additional visual and electronic security features to combat identity fraud and strengthen domestic and international confidence in travel documents.
