Mohamed bin Hadi Al Hussaini, UAE’s Minister of State for Financial Affairs, and Dr. Maha Barakat, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Health, led the UAE’s delegation at the G20 Joint Health-Finance Ministers Meeting (JHFMM).
The meeting assessed the progress achieved by the Joint Finance and Health Task Force (JFHTF) this year.
This task force unites finance and health authorities from G20 member countries, invited nations, and relevant regional and international organizations.
Its objective is to enhance global cooperation and dialogue concerning pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response.
The UAE actively participated in three JFHTF meetings under the G20 Finance Track this year, aiming to foster dialogue and collaboration.
The UAE delegation praised the task force’s advancements, emphasizing the importance of bridging health and finance for effective cooperation.
They also highlighted the significance of the JFHTF’s pandemic risk analysis and financing gap assessments, while stressing the need to account for country-specific circumstances in upcoming efforts.
The meeting focused on enhancing finance-health coordination for responding to health emergencies, strengthening mechanisms, and progressing the framework for health, social, and economic vulnerabilities and pandemic risks.
Additionally, participants discussed the ongoing mapping of pandemic response financing mechanisms and gaps, aiming for a well-coordinated approach.
Concluding the meeting, ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the task force’s priorities and pledged to continue leading efforts in coordinating health and finance aspects for pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response.
