Abu Dhabi’s lotus Hindu temple set for February opening

Middle East’s first traditional Hindu stone temple, likened to a lotus in Abu Dhabi’s desert, is being constructed by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, the organization behind the project.

His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj praised the temple’s miraculous creation, attributing it to divine will and the ingenuity of the Arab community.

The BAPS Hindu Mandir, a historic edifice crafted from pink sandstone and white marble, is emerging in Abu Mureikha near the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway.

Pujya Brahmaviharidas Swami, overseeing the project, was commended for his meticulous involvement and the efforts of the sadhus in giving the temple its exquisite form.

Constructed in accordance with ancient Hindu ‘Shilpa shastras,’ the temple showcases intricately hand-carved sculptures reflecting India’s cultural heritage, including Arab motifs like camels. Depicting significant moments from Indian epics, the temple holds a profound aesthetic harmony.

The sprawling temple complex, set on 27 acres, is expected to endure for over 1,000 years. With seven spires, it will encompass various facilities including a visitor’s center, prayer halls, library, community center, amphitheater, gardens, and more.

The grand opening, marked by a ‘festival of harmony.
