The United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Iraq issued a joint statement following the official visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Mohammad Shia Al-Sultani, to the country on 9 February.

The following is a joint statement:

1- At the invitation of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sultani of the Republic of Iraq paid an official visit to the UAE on 9 February 2023. During the visit, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen political, diplomatic, commercial and economic cooperation, and exchanged views on some issues of regional and international interest, emphasizing the importance of working together to develop all aspects of bilateral relations.

2- The two sides agreed on the importance of holding the 10th meeting of the Joint Commission between the two countries, as it has an important impact on strengthening the relations between the two countries and following up all bilateral documents. The two sides also agreed to develop a bilateral trade framework between the two countries and raise it to the level of a comprehensive partnership to achieve broader economic integration between the two countries, activate economic diplomacy, and promote overall economic growth. Both parties agreed to support existing and future UAE investments in Iraq, open up horizons for new partnerships, and address challenges by turning them into opportunities that benefit the UAE and Iraqi economies, reflecting the brotherhood and friendship between the leadership Spiritual two nations and their brotherly peoples. With non-oil bilateral trade reaching about $17.5 billion in 2022, the two countries will also work to boost trade, building on the significant growth in internal trade over the past few years.

3. The two sides also agreed to expand and develop cooperation in the fields of health, tourism, culture and sports, because these fields are of great significance to the strengthening and development of bilateral relations.

4- Both sides reaffirmed their desire to support regional stability and achieve prosperity for the two peoples by promoting communication, dialogue and building bridges of coordination, which is the best way to ensure regional and international stability, security and prosperity.

5- The Prime Minister of Iraq praised the pioneering role played by the United Arab Emirates in combating climate change, congratulating the UAE for hosting the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) this year. The two sides agreed to strengthen environmental cooperation and control climate change.

6- The Iraqi side expresses its gratitude and appreciation to the UAE government in cooperation with UNESCO for the rebuilding of Al-Nuri Mosque and the two churches of Al Tahera and Al Sa’a through the “Revitalizing the Spirit of Mosul” program.

7- The Prime Minister of Iraq expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his warm welcome and hospitality and invited His Highness to pay an official visit to the Republic of Iraq. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Iraqi Prime Minister for accepting the invitation and visiting the United Arab Emirates.
