UAE joins G20 Labor, Employment Ministers’ meeting

The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE), will participate in the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers’ meeting hosted by India on 20 and 21 July 2023. The UAE will showcase its innovative social security and legal coverage systems for new forms of work, including online jobs.

They will also highlight efforts in supporting women, achieving gender balance in the labor market, and empowering the youth in entering the workforce.

Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, the Minister of Human Resources and Emiratization, emphasized the UAE’s commitment to engaging in high-level international meetings like the G20 Employment Working Group. Such meetings explore future-oriented topics, address current challenges, improve policies, set benchmark indicators, and foster global partnerships in line with the UAE’s strategic directions and vision for sustainable development.

The meeting will discuss global employment trends, recent developments in the labor market, the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), and employment projections by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Social security coverage for new forms of work and ways to enhance stability for workers will also be addressed.

The G20 is a significant forum for economic cooperation, promoting global economic growth and prosperity, with member countries accounting for a substantial portion of the world’s GDP, international trade, and population.

The UAE’s comprehensive national policy for the labor market has earned it leading positions globally, particularly in talent attraction and low labor disputes. The country’s tailored and sustainable policies for its unique labor market needs have resulted in remarkable growth in its labor force in recent years.

In 2022, the UAE recorded a 13 percent increase in its workforce compared to the previous year, and in the second quarter of 2023, it saw a 9.9 percent growth compared to the same period last year.
