UAE: Meet key members at new marine research and rescue center in Abu Dhabi – News

The newly opened Yas Seaworld Research and Rescue Center (YSWRR) in Abu Dhabi is the region’s first dedicated marine research and rescue center with local and international experts.

With 2023 the UAE’s declared “Year of Sustainability,” the center will play a key role in conservation efforts in the region, drawing on SeaWorld Parks and Recreation’s nearly 60 years of experience in marine animal care and rescue.

harrij times Catch up with leading figures from the centre, including the earliest members of the upcoming SeaWorld Abu Dhabi and cast members from the film ‘Jurassic World’.

Dr. Elise Marquis, Director, YSWRR

Dr. Marquis has over 15 years of experience in marine research and consulting around the world. As Director of YSWRR since June 2021, she implements the Center’s vision and coordinates its activities related to three main programs: Research and Rescue, Rehabilitation, Return and Education. “I am excited to lead this diverse and progressive team as we aim to conserve marine life with the long-term goal of community engagement and developing the next generation of marine scientists in this country and the wider region,” said Dr. Marquis, who is the Head of the research project.

Rob Yordi, Chief Curator

Yordi has worked with SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment for over 34 years and has extensive experience in animal care and rescue, field research, wildlife conservation and the marine life theme park industry. He has been part of the SeaWorld Abu Dhabi project since 2016, providing his leadership and experience to support the pre-opening teams at the Sea Life theme park and YSWRR.

“I may be one of the first team members on this project. From our aquaculture facility and veterinary clinic to the rescue fleet that will venture into the Abu Dhabi mangroves and the Arabian Gulf to rescue animals in need, it is a pleasure to be To provide leadership on this talented team.”

Scott McCoy, Senior Director of Zoology

With over 20 years of experience in zoology, Scott McCoy brings his expertise in animal care and rescue, habitat design and maintenance, and park management to SeaWorld Abu Dhabi and YSWRR as Director of Zoology since May 2020 . At SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, McCoy manages a team of more than 100 animal care specialists known as the Animal Ambassadors, in addition to leading rescue operations at the centre. “As the leader of all rescue operations at Yas SeaWorld Research and Rescue, we are honored to continue SeaWorld’s legacy of saving more than 40,000 animals since its founding in 1965.”

Dr Elsburgh ‘Tres’ Clarke III, Director, Animal Health and Welfare

Dr Clarke joined SeaWorld Abu Dhabi and YSWRR in October 2020, bringing 20 years of veterinary experience. He works on the strategic planning, organization and implementation of the animal health and welfare sector. His responsibilities include diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury, nutrition, preventive medicine and animal welfare programs.

“Animals have always fascinated me, and from an early age I knew I would make a career caring for exotic animals. I’m proud that with my own hands – and some technology – I’ve saved thousands of animals and Help them return to our environment.”

Director of EducationMilton Rieback

A seasoned zoo professional, Rieback has more than 25 years of experience in conservation and wildlife education management. Since serving as Education Director in March 2021, Rieback and his team of education professionals have provided the Center with leadership and key resources in zoology and conservation education and contributed to the planning of its curriculum and educational programs.

“As a South African, a country synonymous with wild and diverse wildlife, I have always had a passion for animals. My love for animals extends to marine life and having worked around the world, I now aim to focus on education People understand the rich marine life in the Arabian Gulf, and it will be our job to protect and conserve these animals and their ecosystems.”

Fatima ‘Tony’ Farah, Lecturer in Education

Fatima A. Farah is a UAE Zoology Education Lecturer who works closely with her team and scientists to shape new education sector content, prepare and maintain education program materials and coordinate curriculum development, manage colleague training and marine science-related writing.

“I learned from our Founding Fathers that spreading education is a national responsibility and that educated people are the greatest asset in any developed country. So every morning when I walk into my workplace I remind myself I am here to learn, to empower, to inspire and to be a part of marine science education.”
