Abu Dhabi Waste Management (Tadweer) has launched the first 100% electric waste truck in the UAE, the first ever all-electric heavy truck to be launched in the Middle East.
The first Renault 100% electric truck will be used by Tadweer, the sole custodian of Abu Dhabi Waste Management, to collect domestic waste in the emirate.
The truck was built by Renault Trucks and represented by Al Masaood after Tadweer and Al Masaood signed an agreement during the recent EcoWaste exhibition and conference.
As the first heavy-duty truck to operate in the region, Renault Trucks E-tech Trucks will also run a pilot program to assess the vehicle’s performance in the heat of the capital’s summer heat, in addition to addressing logistical challenges such as the availability of charging stations. critical line.
Equipped with a Gorica-Farid electric waste compactor with a capacity of 23 cubic meters, the Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide P6x2 will operate in Abu Dhabi to collect household waste virtually silently and with zero tailpipe emissions.
The launch of the Renault E-Tech waste management truck is also a commitment to the electrified transport strategy of the UAE and Abu Dhabi, with the country and its capital at the global forefront. Just recently, the federal government committed to installing more than 800 electric vehicle charging stations across the country.
Ali Al Dhaheri, MD and CEO of Tadweer, said: “Tadweer has established itself as a pioneer in waste management and driving a sustainable future. The company employs state-of-the-art modern technology to ensure a successful Environmental Vision 2030 and the UAE’s target of net zero emissions by 2050. We therefore look forward to our continued partnership with Al Masaood and Renault Trucks and are delighted to see the performance and efficiency benefits of this E-Tech waste management truck Our partnership with Al Masaood and Renault Trucks has been characterized by a strong and enduring partnership and we believe this innovative zero-emission truck will bring significant added value to our existing Renault fleet.”
Renault Trucks D-Wide E-tech has already demonstrated its effectiveness and performance in Europe, with urban centers such as Paris and Barcelona employing nearly 100 trucks each to fulfill its commitment to sustainable development and its communities.
By using these electric trucks, the two cities will remove more than 4,000 tons of carbon dioxide from the environment each year, the equivalent of taking 1,000 cars off the road each year. With a range of up to 200 kilometers between charges, these trucks have already proven their worth in terms of zero emissions and performance. Tadweer is eager to start running electric trucks on Abu Dhabi’s roads to assess and monitor the vehicles’ performance in summer temperatures.
The UAE’s first 100% electric garbage truck supports Tadweer in achieving its mission by building an integrated waste management system and enabling a circular economy.
