The two lanes of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road have a new minimum speed limit of 120km/h, while the two outermost lanes of the expressway have a maximum speed limit of 140km/h. Abu Dhabi Police has announced new speed limits that will come into effect from April 1, and drivers caught below the new speed limits will be warned throughout the month. This means that drivers will not be fined in April, but from May onwards fines will apply to drivers traveling below the above minimum speed limit in the outer lane. Scroll down the page and read fine content.

According to Abu Dhabi Police, drivers who slow down to below 120 km/h on the outside lane of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road will be fined Dh400. But as mentioned, in April, drivers will proceed with caution as it will take time for people to get used to this new speed limit. Scroll down the page and read more details.

This new rule changes tailgating, which is often reasoned by perpetrators that the vehicle ahead is traveling too slowly. The outermost lane on the left side of the highway is reserved for overtaking. If the driver is in that lane and there is a safe space to get into the driver’s right and the driver does not move, he may be fined Dh400 regardless of the speed at which you are traveling.
