Two Mubadala Health partners have joined forces to open a dedicated long-term pediatric care unit with 24/7 access from a dedicated team of doctors, nurses and therapists, and the facility also includes an in-house school and a gym.

Amana Healthcare, one of the Middle East’s leading providers of long-term care, inpatient rehabilitation and home care services, has expanded long-term pediatric care in Abu Dhabi, having opened a 29-bed ward at the Danat Al Emarat Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

With intensive care capabilities in a home-like setting, the unit provides round-the-clock care for patients with complex medical conditions requiring long-term acute services in a child-friendly atmosphere. Complete with an indoor play area, in-house school and pediatric gym, the facility will provide comprehensive care for children.

“Our goal is to help pediatric patients receive the care they need in a warm and child-friendly environment,” said Dr. Jason Gray, Acting Executive Director of Amana Healthcare, noting that the unit will have the best Western-certified nurses and physicians Caring for children who require complex medical care.

The facility will manage cases for neonatal and pediatric patients through bedside services. These will include x-rays, developmental checks and other nursing interventions such as cardiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics and pulmonology.

“We specifically ensured that the hospital environment was suitable for pediatric patients and introduced several quality of life programs,” Dr. Gray said.

The unit will provide patients with a comprehensive treatment program including physical therapy, speech and language therapy, respiratory therapy and nutrition, as well as special education programs led by experts trained in the field.

Omar Al Naqbi, Acting Executive Director of Danat Al Emarat Women’s and Children’s Hospital, said the collaboration will provide excellence in long-term care for pediatric patients.

“Our partnership with Amana Healthcare connects our specialty with its renowned long-term care department. Amana Healthcare’s facilities help pediatric patients safely and comfortably receive long-term acute care services tailored to their needs.”

A Quality of Life Program will be at the heart of any treatment plan. Pediatric residents will have the opportunity to participate in individualized activities such as film groups, arts and crafts classes, community tours and in-house schooling. Birthdays and other special anniversaries will be planned to ensure patients can celebrate their important milestones.

The unit will use an integrated care model that allows better coordination and reduces the risk of infection for ventilated patients transferred between the intensive care unit and the long-term ventilation unit.
