UAE, Oman sign MoU to boost environmental protection efforts


DUBAI: A UAE delegation led by Minister of Climate Change and Environment Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri concluded an official visit to Oman during which it strengthened its approach to fish farming, achieving net zero goals, mangrove planting and UAE cooperation. Preparations for the twenty-eighth Conference of the Parties (COP28).

The visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) and the Oman Environment Agency to promote sustainable development and foster cooperation in various fields related to environmental protection.

Almheiri explained that the UAE seeks to encourage the implementation of environmentally friendly solutions to environmental challenges, in line with its hosting of COP28 and its efforts to drive climate action locally and globally.

This visit includes a meeting with Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Oman Environment Agency; Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of Oman.

According to the memorandum of understanding, the two parties will carry out exchange research and joint research in the fields of environmental protection, air quality improvement, biodiversity protection, achieving sustainable development goals (SGDs), and compiling sustainable development progress reports.

The two sides will also exchange best practices and policies on environmental protection and pollution reduction.

The UAE delegation included several officials from MoCCAE.
