UAE Oncology Society celebrates graduation of recovered UAE cancer patient

DUBAI – The Emirates Oncology Society, in partnership with the Gulf Oncology Society, celebrated International Cancer Survivor Month with a large event last night, Sunday at the Museum of the Future in Dubai, honoring and graduating the many Surviving patients, of which 200 recoveries participated. This grand gathering of patients conveyed the hope of patients and their families that patients can live a normal life after completing treatment, and changed the society’s view of the deadly and inescapable disease.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Obaid Khalfan Al Ghoul Al Salami, Member of the Federal National Council, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Salem bin Rakad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE Cancer Society, and His Excellency Salem Al Nar Al Shehhi, former members of the Federal National Council, and a group of distinguished Oncologist and two activists in the field.

Professor Humaid bin Harmal Al Shamsi, Chairman, UAE Cancer Society, said: “June is considered the month of survivors and cancer recoverers, praise God we can say that the number of people recovering from cancer is constantly increasing due to the advancement of modern medicine and all treatments Method’s availability in the UAE, with all international services, equipment and expertise available in the country with the strong support of our wise leadership, increases the chances of recovery from cancer, one of the leading causes of death worldwide.”

He noted that the purpose of this large gathering was to educate the community on the success stories of treating cancer in the UAE and how cancer is a curable disease, God willing, and not, as many believe, that a diagnosis of cancer means the inevitable Death, interpretation of success stories and full recovery play an important role. Supporting cancer patients and their families psychologically can be very helpful.

Al Shamsi added that holding these gatherings for cancer patients and their families helps to strengthen cohesion among this important community group, including children and adults recovering from cancer, to discuss challenges they may face, such as fear of relapse Anxiety recovery and long-term side effects of treatment.

In his speech, His Excellency Obaid Khalfan Al Ghoul Al Salami noted that the UAE is considered to have one of the lowest infection rates among countries due to intense competition among state institutions to project an honorable image in supporting cancer patients, emphasizing the need for more Research and local research to determine the scale of the problem. Causes of cancerous tumors and their spread, development of programs and strategic plans that help reduce the incidence of various tumors as they increase the pressure on healthcare institutions and are costly to treat cancer in addition to causing suffering to patients and their families The cost to patients runs into billions of dirhams.

The event included a conversation session that brought together oncologists and some recovering survivors, during which they reflected on the physical and psychological pain the patient was going through and the importance of support from the family, professional community and those around the patient Support and mental health as well as understanding the patient’s needs and situation in terms of fighting and overcoming the disease, the discussing doctors emphasized the importance of early diagnosis to avoid the development and spread of the disease, pointing out the most important issues to introduce to them with lifestyle Relevant to the post-recovery phase, while mentioning the most important tips to help recovering people stay healthy, and engaging in an educational role based on the experiences of other patients with their illness.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, cancer survivors of all ages were honored and their families could not have been happier in their presence.
