UAE operations: MoHAP receives ISO 37000:2021 certification from BSI

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has become the first entity in the Middle East and North Africa to upgrade its organisational governance from the UK’s effective governance standard BS 13500 to ISO 37000:2021.

Following a comprehensive and rigorous audit by the British Standards Institution’s international team of experts and arbitrators, MoHAP received ISO accreditation to ensure that the department’s operations are in full compliance with governance standards.

The new milestone will strengthen the Ministry’s position as a pioneer in putting into practice the best international standards for effective governance management systems. It comes after it successfully implemented a governance system built on trust, accountability, transparency and fair practices.

Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Olama, Deputy Minister of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), has obtained British Standards Certification at the Dubai Ministry of Health headquarters. BSI India, Middle East, Africa and Turkey Regional Managing Director Theuns Kotze’s ISO Accredited Body.

Mohammad Al Ali, Director of Corporate Governance and Risk Department of BSI, Saqr Al Hemeiri, Director of Strategy and Future Department, and Ammar Hasan, Business Development Manager, attended the meeting.

Excellence and Development

Al Olama congratulated MoHAP staff on the new milestone, stressing that the accreditation was made possible thanks to the ministry’s uninterrupted journey in institutional excellence and growth and its commitment to the highest international standards.

“ISO accreditation is yet another testament to the success of our hard work, highlighting how efficient we are. It also reflects our desire to reach new heights and create new feats. We are constantly working to develop our institutional performance and strengthen the health sector governance and sustainability, as well as implementing the latest effective governance standards,” said Al Olama.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Al Ali stressed that the Department’s transition from BS 13500 to ISO 37000 reflects the Department’s keenness to adopt and implement the latest practices in a well-managed, integrated and comprehensive administrative environment.

“The Ministry is moving towards a new vision of excellence in line with its strategic and operational plans, which aim to promote science- and institutions-based practice to ensure transparency in its work, apply the latest international standards and meet effective governance,” Al Ali said.

He stressed that the Ministry of Health will continue to promote the competitiveness and sustainability of the health sector by developing policies, procedures and protocols based on best practices and implementing quality, governance and control standards to improve the services it provides to all stakeholders. This will further solidify the leading position of the UAE’s health system, especially in the area of ​​governance.

Saqr Al Hemeiri praised this new achievement, saying that the accreditation would not have been possible without the enormous efforts of the ministry’s team, thanks to the ministry’s ability to compete effectively with many regional and international institutions and meet different standards and All requirements involved in certification.

“The Department’s leadership is committed to taking the vessel to new heights of excellence and achievement, and is determined to apply the best and latest global practice. This positively reflects the Department’s acquisition of ISO 37000 from BSI, becoming the first in the region to receive ISO 37000. entity of this certificate,” Al Hemeiri said.

He emphasized that MoHAP attaches great importance to improving capabilities and cadres, creating an enabling environment, and providing all the necessary tools to enable it to compete not only regionally but globally.
