Pakistani Ambassador to the UAE Faisal Niaz Tirmizi submitted his credentials as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

Credentials were received by Francesco La Camera, Director General of Irena.

During the ceremony, Tirmizi reiterated Pakistan’s full support for the realization of Irena’s goals and initiatives, while noting that mainstreaming renewable energy is a priority for the country.

He said Pakistan’s focus was on diversifying its energy resources to include hydropower, natural gas, coal and nuclear power, in addition to renewables such as solar, wind and biomass, to meet the country’s growing energy needs.

Irena is the world’s leading intergovernmental body for energy transitions, serving as a major platform for international cooperation, supporting countries’ energy transitions and providing the latest data and analysis on technology, innovation, policy, finance and investment.

Irena’s membership includes 167 countries. Together, they determine the agency’s direction and program activities to align with global energy discussions and priorities to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy-based energy transitions worldwide.
