Two UAE government entities recently honored Pakistani expatriate Abdulaziz Abdulhamid for helping keep road users safe in Sharjah. He was awarded certificates of commendation by both the Emirates Police and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
Sharjah police said Abdulaziz took the initiative to set up makeshift roadblocks to warn drivers of a dangerous hole in the side of the road.
They added that a patch of sand in the area had sunk and collapsed when heavy rains hit the country, posing a danger to motorists. Seeing this, Abdulaziz sprang into action and used everything he could find to build some kind of barricade.
In a video circulating on social media, the expatriate can be seen collecting logs and rocks to signal a detour to prevent the driver from possibly falling off the road.
“We highly value and appreciate this gesture of humanity. We cannot thank Abdulaziz enough for what he has done. His thoughtful gesture is a real display of kindness and compassion,” Mohel Deputy Human Resources Affairs Minister Khalil Al Khoori said as he received Abdulaziz at the ministry’s premises on Friday.
General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amir, deputy commander-in-chief of the Sharjah police, paid tribute to Abdulaziz on Thursday morning. “Police are keen to honor residents who go above and beyond to help their communities,” he said.
