Ajman police have denied a widely circulated claim that surveillance cameras on the streets of the UAE are being used to detect traffic violations and issue fines.
Police said the posts on social media were fake.
Authorities said they would investigate who made the statement and arrested the suspect.
The UAE has a zero-tolerance policy on fake news. Federal law imposes a fine of Dh100,000 and/or imprisonment for publishing, broadcasting or disseminating false news, rumors or misleading information.
