Hayat plans to work with multiple strategic partners locally and globally
There has been a “huge leap” in the number of post-mortem organ donations in the UAE, saving 400 lives so far, a senior official said.
The UAE Organ Transplant Law came into effect in 2016. The National Human Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Programme (Hayat) has been established to facilitate the donation and transplantation of human organs and tissues.
Since its inception, the program has successfully helped 114 families in 20 different countries donate 417 organs, including hearts, lungs, livers, pancreas, small intestines and kidneys, which have been transplanted to 400 organs from 29 different countries exhausted patients.
“Post-mortem donation has become a practical reality in the UAE since the promulgation of Federal Decree No. (5) of 2016 regulating the transfer and transplantation of human organs and tissues. The development of the UAE’s National Organ Donation and Transplantation Programme has seen post-mortem donation A huge leap forward in donor donation with impressive results in heart, lung, liver, pancreas and kidney transplants,” said Dr Ali Al Obaidli, Chairman of the UAE National Transplant Council.
Hayat plans to work with multiple strategic partners locally and globally to save lives, further improve the health and safety of communities and enhance the quality of life. Organ transplant exchanges with some countries in the region have also been initiated.
The programme is a collaboration between multiple federal and local authorities, including the Ministry of Health and Prevention, Abu Dhabi Department of Health, Dubai Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Health Services (SEHA), Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, in addition to other public and private healthcare entities.
“With the guidance and support of the UAE’s wise leadership, we continue our efforts to provide the best possible care for the community, enhance the quality of life, and promote cultural tolerance and solidarity. In addition, we are grateful to all stakeholders in the healthcare sector and other local and federal entities the unremitting support of the people.”
Next month, Abu Dhabi will host the International Conference on the Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplant Initiative. Organised by the UAE National Committee for Human Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation, the conference will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) from 7-9 November.
More than 30 global speakers, including experts, experts and representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) and more than 20 countries around the world, will participate in the conference to elucidate global experiences and best practices related to science and philanthropy. , the social and legal aspects of organ donation, and raising community awareness of healthy living and disease prevention.
Al Obaidli added: “We are delighted to organize this important international conference in Abu Dhabi, which will provide an outstanding platform for experts and policymakers around the world to exchange expertise and experience in the field of organ donation and transplantation, It also illuminates important challenges facing the field. Throughout the conference, we will showcase the UAE’s successful experience in organ donation and transplantation, as well as future plans aimed at improving the lives of community members in the UAE and the region.”
The conference will also feature an art exhibit featuring artwork and literature highlighting the history of local and global organ donation.
