King Charles III was officially proclaimed as British monarch on Saturday in a ceremony steeped in age-old tradition and political symbolism — and it was broadcast live for the first time.
Charles automatically becomes king when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, dies on Thursday, but the enthronement ceremony is a key constitutional and ceremonial step in introducing the new monarch to the country.
This is the first time the ceremony has been held since Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne in 1952.
