The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has published the world’s first national regulations related to vertiports, as manufacturers of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aim to roll out their aircraft by 2024, state-run WAM news agency reported.
The regulations cover the design and operational requirements for vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft that support the efficient and safe operation of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft.
An industry consultation has been issued on proposed amendments to the draft new regulations, with the final version due in the first quarter of 2023.
The proposed vertiport regulations will strengthen the UAE’s urban air mobility proposals and increase safety in the aviation sector by providing a unique certification and regulatory oversight framework for vertiports.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, said the rapid development of advanced air mobility presents opportunities to reduce carbon emissions, reduce congestion and gain access to hard-to-reach markets through vision, planning and collaboration among aviation industry stakeholders
