In an online statement on Thursday, the non-government think tank claimed that “the shameful activity now exposed is a recurring pattern of racism and exploitation that often targets migrant workers from Africa”.

The group filed the lawsuit in the “State Policy” section of its website, claiming that “primarily black workers are being forcibly deported” and that an “incarcerated Nigerian worker” had died.

The report also referred to a video received by Impact International that allegedly showed Ugandan workers protesting “abuses” at the al-Aweer prison in Dubai.

Saeed al-Hebsi, Director-General of the Human Rights Division of MoFAIC, responded that “measures to arrest and expel a limited number of workers are carried out as part of a legal process, and all workers, without exception, are bound by a written legal employment contract protecting their rights, “In the statement.

The statement continued: “The parties involved must abide by the terms of these contracts, and any termination of the contractual relationship with the worker must take place as required by the contract.”

Al-Hebsi also said the UAE “remains committed to full transparency in dealing with these issues.”
