A member of the Sharjah royal family has come to the rescue of two dogs tied up in the heat after yet another shocking incident of animal cruelty.

Earlier this morning, the Stray Dog Centre UAQ (SDC-UAQ) received an alert on a Whatsapp group about two dogs being neglected. A volunteer from SDC-UAQ immediately arrived at the area in the Sajaa industrial area of ​​Sharjah to find two dogs – a black shepherd and a German shepherd – tied up without food and water.

“The dog’s caretaker is a blue-collar employee,” said Amirah William, founder of SDC-UAQ. “The dog belonged to his boss and he absolutely refused to give the dog to our volunteers. That’s when I asked a member of the royal family for help.”

Once William reached out, the royals arranged for the authorities to get in touch with the employer, who was the owner of the dogs.

“The owner is heartbroken to find out his dog has been mistreated like this,” she said. “He put the dogs in the staff’s care and never thought they would be treated like this.”

According to her, the royals have been in touch with their owners and are overseeing the welfare of the dogs.

This is the second incident this week in which a royal has stepped in over the poor treatment of pets. A locked husky was rescued from a balcony in Dubai on Monday as his plight went viral online. Members of the Dubai royal family coordinated with the city government and police to ensure the animal was rescued.

William warns pet owners to only keep their pets at licensed boarding facilities or pet sitters to avoid such negative consequences.

“People might leave their pets with employees or neighbors to save a few dollars,” she said. “However, these can be dangerous and have deadly consequences.”

She also thanked the community and authorities for their prompt response. “It’s heartening to see the larger community inform us of such incidents,” she said. “Furthermore, the cooperation of the authorities is amazing. The more people are held accountable for their actions, the more likely it is that pet owners are breaking the law. Small.”
