DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, today awarded the recipients of the fourth Mohammed bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Excellence, which aims to In recognition of accomplished scientists and researchers.
The award ceremony at Za’abeel Palace was attended by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Sheikh of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE; and Sheikh Crown Prince of Ajman Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said the UAE prioritizes scientific development. The ceremony was also attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Media Council; Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs; Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, Public Education and Minister of State for Advanced Technology and Chairman of the UAE Council of Scientists; and Omran Sharaf, Assistant Minister of Advanced Science and Technology Diplomacy and International Cooperation.

Sheikh Mohammed presented the Scientific Excellence Medal to Prof. Ehab El-Saadany, Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Khalifa University, UAE, and Director of the Center for Advanced Power and Energy, and Prof. Shao Ling, Chief Scientist of Terminus. Mohammed Bin, President of Terminus International One of the founders of Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence.
Other honorees include Professor Qutayba Hamid, Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sharjah, who received the Lifetime Achievement Medal; Mohammad Almari, a Dubai Police Major and Assistant Professor of Genetics at the Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences PhD received the Rising Star Scientist Medal.
The Advanced Technology Research Council, led by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, was awarded the Mohammed bin Rashid Medal in Support of Scientific Research. Faisal Abdulaziz Al Bannai, Secretary General of the Advanced Technology Research Council and Chairman of the Edge Group Executive Board, accepted the award on behalf of the Council.
Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology and Chairperson of the UAE Council of Scientists, highlighted the role of the Mohammad bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Excellence in recognizing outstanding achievements in the UAE’s scientific community, which supports the country’s open strategy New avenues for economic growth, improving the quality of life of the people of the UAE and improving economic sustainability.
Members of the UAE Council of Scientists, university presidents and members of the scientific and technological academic community were also present at the award ceremony.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Excellence is an initiative launched by Sheikh Mohammed to honor scientists, researchers and institutions who have made outstanding contributions to scientific research in the country. The award aims to highlight their role in society and create a conducive environment for innovation and scientific research, especially for young scientists.
