[ad_1]

United Arab Emirates

The UAE Space Agency and Amazon Web Services (AWS) signed a statement of strategic intent and cooperation. The agreement aims to support the development of the UAE’s space sector.

The Space Industry Development Program, the Space Talent Program, and the Open Data Sponsorship Program are three initiatives in which AWS will collaborate with the UAE Space Agency and other relevant UAE government space organizations and agencies.

The Space Industry Development Program places equal emphasis on promoting an environment friendly to new entrants (such as space startups) and the expansion of existing commercial space organizations.

With the help of the program, they will have access to the AWS Activate and AWS Founders programs, both designed to provide entrepreneurs with AWS credits, technical training and business support.

Meanwhile, the Space Talent Program is focused on developing talent for the UAE’s space industry, especially in the areas of cloud computing and big data. AWS will offer out-of-the-box Cloud Career Pathways courses specifically for relevant research universities.

Additionally, the Open Data Sponsorship Program will foster collaboration between the UAE space and research communities by sharing datasets on AWS related to spatial data-driven projects, including Space Surveillance and Space Situational Awareness programmes.

Ibrahim Al Qasim, Deputy Director General of the UAE Space Agency, underlined the importance that the UAE Space Agency places on international cooperation between the public and private sectors in the field of space.

“Space is the next frontier of commercial growth that will drive the nation’s economy over the next 50 years. This strategic agreement of intent will support the creation of a competitive private sector, build national capacity, foster public-private partnerships, foster research and development, and encourage entrepreneurship.”

He said: “We have talented national cadres who have the ability to innovate and create to achieve the best results and continue the pace of national achievements in the space field. This agreement with Amazon Web Services is our national talent, It is part of the aim and objective of start-ups and SMEs to provide the best skills and learning programmes, in addition to providing the best applications and facilities to companies in this space.”

“The focus of this agreement is to provide commercial and public space companies, as well as young professionals, with the technology tools and resources they need to be successful in the long-term,” said Wojciech Bajda, Public Sector Director, Middle East and Africa, Amazon Web Services.
