Mosques across the UAE will hold special rain prayers on Friday 11 November. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has issued a directive to hold “Salaat Al Istisqaa” (Adan) 10 minutes before the call for Friday prayers.
All able Muslims are advised to pray the rain in accordance with the hadith – the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Through special prayers, devotees ask Allah to bless the country with beneficial rains and mercy.
This is not the first time rain prayers have been held in the country. Salaat Al Istisqaa takes place in 2021, 2020, 2017, 2014, 2011 and 2010 – usually between November and December.
An imam in Dubai earlier shared a step-by-step guide to offering prayers:
- There will be no Azaan or Iqaamah (call to prayer)
- Salaat Al Istisqaa is similar to Eid prayers. It is a two rak’ah in which the Qur’an is recited aloud
- Imams will start with Takbeeratul Ihram (the act of beginning prayer), then six or seven others
- Then, he will recite the Quran verse called Fatiha, and then any other verses.The rest of the rakah is done as usual
- In the second prayer, pronounced as six Takbeers
- After the prayer, the imam leads the faithful in a collective supplication (dua)
October 16 marks the start of the rainy season in the UAE. The season, known as “Al Wasm”, is characterized by a significant drop in temperature, strong winds and light to heavy rain. During this season, greenery begins to bloom in the desert.
The UAE will transition to winter at the end of this month. The cooler temperatures are expected to last for 100 days.
