UAE strengthens sustainable development on World Energy Day 2022

In 2021, the UAE announced the UAE’s Strategic Plan for Net Zero Emissions by 2050, which will invest more than AED600 billion in clean and renewable energy by 2050. This makes the country the first in the Middle East and North Africa to launch such a program.

He added: “The launch of World Energy Day from the UAE has raised awareness of the importance of diversifying energy sources and increasing the share of clean and renewable energy sources, in addition to developing national policies and strategies to support and contribute to sustainable development. to improve the efficiency of energy production and use.”

“The UAE has a set of future plans aimed at diversifying energy sources and switching to clean energy, especially nuclear power. The operation of the Barakah Peace Nuclear Power Plant supports the UAE’s efforts to transition to clean energy. This is a move towards securing energy for decades to come. A big step forward for sustainability, diversification and security,” added Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Deputy Chairman of Dubai’s Supreme Energy Council and Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, ​​said: “Energy is a major driver of economic and social development. The UAE places great emphasis on energy sustainability and supports global efforts to combat climate change. This is achieved by supporting effective solutions for low-carbon local sectors and implementing pioneering projects that support the UAE’s strategy and vision for the future.”

He added: “In Dubai, we are working to increase the share of renewable and clean energy in Dubai’s energy mix to provide 100% of Dubai’s total energy mix in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emission Strategy 2050. Electricity. Clean energy production capacity by 2050.”

Key clean energy projects implemented by DEWA include the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single solar park operating on an independent power producer model with a capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030; A pumped-storage hydropower plant using clean energy, the first of its kind in the Arabian Gulf region; DEWA’s green hydrogen project at Dubai Solar Park is the first pilot project of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa.
