The translation studies student team of the Department of Language and Literature of the UAE University collaborated with the Paris Institute of Intercultural Interpretation and Translation (ISIT) to translate a documentary about space exploration. This 35-minute documentary was produced by Virgil Novarina and is titled “Inner Telescope, Space Story of d’Eduardo Kac”.
On this occasion, Dr. Moza Obaid Al Tenaijy, Assistant Professor of the Translation Studies Program at UAEU School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Dean of the Department of Language and Literature, said: “We are very pleased with the efforts of UAEU students in their cooperation with the French Intercultural Interpretation and Translation School (ISIT). This emphasizes the success of the university’s strategy of training qualified students, supporting the job market with professional cadres, promoting the progress of the country, and keeping pace with the wise leadership’s efforts to build bridges of communication with people around the world, regardless of them. Under the supervision and guidance of the scholars of the Translation Research Project, UAEU students Randah Daloo, Maha Kadi, Alhanoof Almazrouei, Mennant Abo El Wafa, Bassant Hamed and Sherina Alnuaimi participated in the translation of the film; Dr. Ferhat Mameri and Dr. Raja Lahiani.
This documentary film aims to provide viewers with information about the internal telescope, how it is made and how it works. It also explains the relationship between liberal arts and science in the field of space exploration. In addition, it also talked about technical experiments conducted on the International Space Station.
UAEU students work with a team of students from the French Intercultural Interpretation and Translation Institute (ISIT) to share tasks including transcription, translation, and subtitling. Work requires the team to hold multiple meetings to exchange experience, discuss the work process, and deal with some difficulties. This activity allowed the students to gain some experience in the field of translation and experience the joy of cooperation and group cooperation.
