The just-concluded DP World ILT20 helped the UAE players to leap forward and it was on display despite the national team losing the T20 International series against Afghanistan.
ILT20 featured 24 UAE players rubbing shoulders with some of the top names from cricket.
After losing Game 1, the UAE tied the series by winning Game 2. They take on Afghanistan in their third T20 international at the Zayed Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
The UAE, who beat Afghanistan to tie the series 1-1 on Saturday, were knocked out by six wickets in a final thriller.
Going into the batting phase, the UAE’s openers were well served – batsmen Muhammad Waseem and Vriitya Aravind. Waseem top scored a stunning 75 off 50 deliveries and was adorned with eight boundaries and three sixes. Aravind struck 59 off 53 balls with seven fours and a six.
The duo also forged a century of partnership – 129 off 94 deliveries as the Emirates won 163-6.
Afghanistan fell to 86-4 in pursuit of the goal but a fifth wicket between opener Ibrahim Zadran and Karim Janat saved the day for the visitors at 80 as they were down to five The ball crossed the finish line.
Still, this is a series where the UAE could take a lot of positive steps.
